I heard about this case a while ago, but I never thought we’d win this one (We=The Consumer).
Bell Canada has been found guilty of loansharking, since they charge a $25 late fee on Bell ExpressVu bills. This “service fee” means that, in reality, they’re charging about 60% interest.
When you consider that overages and penalty charges are a huge extra fee that a lot of consumers are stuck with, I see nothing but good coming from this ruling. Here’s the CBC story on it.
