RCMP Just Wanna Have Fun

CBC is reporting on some RCMP officers that were part of a university detachment.

Apparently, the police officers stopped to question some young women about having open alcohol containers in public.

They then started flirting with police.

However, what no one can deny is that there’re some less-then-professional pictures of the officers posing with a half dozen girls, and a pair of handcuffs.

Nintendo Faking Wii Shortages?

According to PS3 Center (who, just like CNN, are fair and unbiased, I’m sure…) Nintendo is planning on faking Wii shortages.

This seems a bit problematic - for one, they use awesome weasel words like, “Many analysts are saying…” without naming analysts or sources.

For another, what they actually say Nintendo’s doing is this:

They have come out to the public and stated that they will have a shortage of consoles only to boost demand.

So, Nintendo is creating a shortage - not by reducing the number of units available to the public, but by saying, “Hey guys, we think we’ll have a shortage around Christmas”.

This hardly seems all that manipulative - Sony was trying to claim that it had a shortage of consoles right near when they first came out, I’d say that was largely a lie. All Nintendo is doing is trying to peer into the murky future - and if the Wii turns out to be this Christmas’ “must have item”, it doesn’t matter how many they crank out, they won’t be able to keep up with demand.

Our Common Stories

It used to be, aeons ago (or… when my parents were kids… or when savage indians roamed the earth… or whatever) that people would sit around, and tell stories - of heroes, or legends, or myths, what have you.

Those stories became something that those people shared; and were able to reference and talk about amongst each other.

We’ve got that nowadays… it’s just a bit different.

Never really realized how much of this stuff I’d absorbed, till I saw this (it always seems like I’m the only one who’s discovered these things… :) )

Actually, this is pretty interesting, and may make some things more identifiable - it’s the same video, but with clips from the source instead of the flash images:

Stupid Morning…

So, there I was, luxuriating in the extra 45 minutes or so of sleep that define my Wednesdays. Aaahh… isn’t it great to

RING RING

Ugh… phone… probably Heather with some PC problem… “Hello?” “BEEEP” “BEEEP” click as I hang up the phone. I assume that this is some machine that calls up, to see when I’m home so that telemarketers can call.

Aaahh, back to bed. Let’s see if those identical twins have changed into their lingerie yet…Oh, it looks like they have. Well girls

RING RING

You’ve gotta be kidding me. Well, might be important.

BEECLICK*

Same machine, AGAIN! Not 5 minutes later!

If that phone rings one more time I’m going to throw it out the bloody window.

BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP*

Yep - at that exact moment, my roommate set off the fire alarm in the suite.

Bandwidth Limits Suck

So, I got a copy of Half Life 2 Episode One (w00t! Thanks Bravado!).

Why am I not playing it right now? Two reasons, my friend.

  1. I’ve got a test and a writing assignment due tomorrow

And, just or more significantly,

  1. 3.5 GB game… 500 MB/day bandwidth cap.

So; looks like I’ll have to muck about with downloading this thing in class (or carefully space out the download over a week, week and a half).

w00t indeed, Waterloo. W00t indeed.

2.3 Is the Place To Be

So, I just updated my blog - I’m now running Wordpress 2.3 (upgraded from Wordpress 2.1).

The process seemed to go fairly smoothly… no huge potholes to navigate through.

There DOES seem to be some sort of a strange problem with files that I had uploaded… on the plus side, I never had many of them, and I of course did a full backup of the directory before I dropped 2.3 in, so I can probably rehabilitate the whole thing.

Big advantages? Well, the biggest one that I can see right now is that it’ll tell you when plugins are out of date automatically, and give you a link so you can update them (so, for example, every plugin I had that isn’t abandonware was out of date…).

All in all, a rather painless process; I’d say.
