FLICK OFF

An interesting campaign to remind Canada’s youth to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

There was a heated debate about the slogan on CFRB 1010 today, due to the obviously suggestive nature of the logo: FLICK OFF Was this an accident? Highly unlikely. This is a government program marketing a curse word to children, advertising it on T-shirts and other places. And it is clear it was no accident. Just look at the links on their website:

ARE WE FLICKED? WHO NEEDS TO FLICK OFF? GO FLICK YOURSELF FLICK TALK and, let’s not ignore the suggestive name of their upcoming contest, FLICKFEST

It is really shameful for a government program to market these shirts to children, when it is clearly suggestive of a more offensive word. As far as the program in general, if it were strictly marketed to teenagers and older, then I would consider it witty and clever (although a bit crude for a government organization). But for elementary school kids to be participating in such a program seems…wrong.

Although, the T-shirts would be awesome to have. In fact, I might consider getting one. Just to piss off all you MOTHERFLICKERS.
