Source SDK

In the past few weeks, I have been playing a lot of Half-Life 2 lately, and I have been reading a lot of stuff from GameCareerGuide.com about developing games. More recently, I have been delving into the Source SDK tutorials available online to learn effective ways to go about modelling, texturing, AI programming, etc, etc. And I have been doing all of this because I have been thinking that it would be really, really cool to make a mod for Half-Life 2.

If there is one thing we have seen from Valve’s practices, it is that they forego the standard interview process for software developers by releasing their source code, allowing random programs to make modifications, and then Valve swoops in, hires the entire development team, buys their IP and starts to sell it. It happened with Counter Strike. It happened with Portal.

And, if the right talent can be found, I was hoping it could happen to us. The way I see it, our small little community has diverse talent in writing, artistry, mild programming, vocal work, and even music arrangement. So, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in working on developing a mod for Half-Life 2? It will probably be difficult and it might take a while for us to coordinate (since we are all so distant), but I thought it might be something cool to try.

I have a few ideas for gameplay. I am not 100% certain if it is feasible on the Source engine, but I think it might be worth a shot. :)

Let me know what you think in the comments.
