I Hate The University of Waterloo…

Good grief.

So, both of my DE courses are fucking ridiculous.

I’m enrolled in PD7: Conflict Resolution and PHYS 222 DE: Electricity and Magnetism 1.

For PD7, I get the usual access through ACE. But, because I think they like to be hip, cool, and technologically trendy, they have most of their course content done through video. This is very difficult to stream when you are on a shitty residential internet connection at a high school. It takes me 15-20 minutes to stream a single video, and the first part of the first module has 6 or 7 videos in it.

Unbelievable.

For PHYS 222 DE, they sent me a nice little CD full of the audio lectures, and I was given instructions to buy the textbook with the solution manual. So, I did all that.

I start listening to the lectures today, and the professor is making reference to some course notes. So, I go back to Book Look and start fishing around to see where these course notes are made available from. There is no information about them whatsoever. So, he is making all these references to things that I CANNOT SEE, rendering the audio lectures entirely useless.

Ugh…this is not at all what I needed for this term. Stupid bullshit administration of programs.

New Facebook?

Everyone’s status today seemed to be something to the effect of “New Facebook is all there is” or “New Facebook sucks” or “New Facebook is so cluttered” or - in the case of one of our fellow RCGers, “Guess the new Facebook is now the only Facebook”.

Did they make the switch today or something?

Because I’m still using the Old Facebook. And they’ll have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

Another Note on the Negative Tally

So, I was told recently that I will be able to teach 11 days worth of Data Management. I will be preparing the lessons, teaching the lessons, administering the tests, and all of that fun stuff.

Then, the VP told me that he needed me to cover a Physics class. One day, they were writing a test. The second day, they just needed me to play a video.

Unfortunately, the second day of Physics coverage overlapped with the first day of Data Management. So, I e-mailed the VP and said that I would cover the test day, but the other co-op would have to cover the video lesson while I taught Data Management (which is more relevant to my career).

I thought this was suitable. The other co-op, Melissa, doesn’t seem to have as much to do as me. (Students have rarely come to the tutorial centre to get help from her, whereas I had 5 or 6 people today alone, and it is only the first real week of classes). Melissa pointed this out, by the way, so please don’t think I’m being conceited or anything.

So, the VP e-mails me back and says that he has discussed it with the principal, and they want me in the physics class, while they are going to bring in another substitute to teach Data Management.

So, here is the scoop.

I will have to make the lesson for that class. Give it to a substitute. And then I am going to go to a physics class, put on a DVD, and sit there.

Does this make any sense? Am I popping crazy pills?

I’m here to learn how to teach from an experienced staff and with hands on experience. How does playing a DVD and sitting on my butt teach me how to teach?

Is That What Makes A Good Leader?

Pundits and pollsters piled on Dion the moment he was out of the starting gate for not having a sleek campaign jet, not running hard-hitting attack ads and not finding an attractive backdrop for his campaign launch. These glitches, they warned, raise doubts about his fitness to run the country.

Is that what it takes to be a good leader? Hard-hitting attack ads and a good photo op?

PD X

I hate the WatPD program.

Such garbage. It is all a huge waste of time, and I don’t need additional crap to do on a work term where I am already working for nearly 12 hours a day.
