We’re Back Up?

Yeah. Maybe.

For the time being, it appears that the Red Card Group has stabilized.

Rumour has it that an electromagnetic storm passing through the server room at our kind hosting service was to blame.

Schools Teaching Everyday Math

Apparently, parents are having issues understanding the “new math” being taught to their children in elementary school. This “new math” is actually known by school boards as Everyday Math. In my mind, it is smart math, or Vanderburgh Math.

Watch the video. The way they are teaching addition and multiplication is - I believe - the same method such brilliant minds as Professor Vanderburgh and Danger use for their quick mental mathematical manipulations. So, while parents may not get what is going on, these kids will have an understanding of math that allows them to do basic mathematical operations in their head. A useful skill, to be sure.

Soon, they will be rhyming off prime numbers, lucky numbers, and complicated sequences with ease.

Officer Hit by Car Recovering

A Detroit police officer is being hailed as a hero after his actions in this video.

Watch the video.

Have you watched it? You must watch it. I do not want to generate bias before hand.

Good. Now that you have watched it, tell me in the comments what it really looks like he is doing.

Say What?

Read something at Next Generation.

What you’re seeing, though, is two platforms are having tremendous success. Xbox 360 has hit 10 million units, the Wii is now getting close to that milestone, whereas the PS3 seems to be a bit stalled, and what you’re finding is that there are two platforms that are performing very well, going after two uniquely different types of consumers, while the PS3 really seems like it’s getting squeezed out.

Emphasis added

I’m sorry. The Wii surpassed that milestone many moons ago.

That one line just bugs me. The Wii is outselling everything as far as hardware is concerned. A lot of the other stuff that he says in the article makes sense though. And the 360 does look more and more appealing with each passing day.

TO Interviews

Had my Teaching Option interviews today. Until I have actually secured a job, I’m going to refer to them by codenames. My first interview was with Sisters Collegiate, a co-ed private school. I thought the interview went really well, and from what the interviewer told me about the position, I would be really excited to work for them. The second interview was with Sutherland Academy, an all boys private school. This interview was more bizarre. It started off with a question about the playoffs. I said I didn’t watch hockey. I was not asked another question…they basically explained the school. This worried me…but I guess we shall see what happens when the results come back tomorrow. I mean, I was interested by Sutherland Academy. I put a lot of research into that school. They actually thought I was reading off a piece of paper at one point. But I had actually read through a lot of their website, their Wikipedia entry, etc, etc. Anyway, yeah. I’d be happy getting into either school. I just want to teach. As I said, I’ll find out how I did tomorrow.

Surprising. Yeah. I thought so too. They interview us one day and are getting back to us about hiring us the next. What service. :)
