Yahtzee!
Yahtzee at Zero Punctuation is apparently getting slammed by angry fans (or former fans) because of an allegedly racist comment he made at the end of one of his more recent clips. The video is here. If you aren’t devoting all of your attention to the act of listening, you may very well miss the comment. Yahtzee talks incredibly fast.
To jump right to it, Yahtzee says that he is “white enough to afford all of the consoles”. Ultimately, I didn’t think this was that offensive. It just plays up the stereotype of the fatcat Caucasian businessman; a stereotype that many comedians are likely using in comedy sketches right now on television or in a club somewhere. If you can grasp the grievance, you may be too sensitive.
Check out this blog post on the matter. The post is not interesting. The comments are though, especially those who point out that Yahtzee’s normal fare is equally insulting of other groups (homosexuals, women, mentally handicapped individuals) but we all just take it in stride.
People really are too sensitive.
Kaz!
A lot of interesting comments coming from the PS3 side of things lately.
Kaz Hirai has said that ”[Sony’s] competiion is not Microsoft or Nintendo” and ”third parties were confused by the PS3”.
From these articles, I get the impression that Sony’s business model involves gargling the testicles of the rest of the industry. I mean…they are working the exact opposite angle of Nintendo. The Nintendo Wii is a game system - pure and simple - that was made to fulfill one purpose and draw in everyone, thus expanding the market. Sony - on the other hand - has built a system that is meant to serve many purposes and is competing with not only Microsoft and Nintendo, but also every Blu-ray maker and home entertainment manufacturer the world over. Nintendo has made a new share of the market and engulfed it all. Sony has tried to secure a tiny piece of five or six markets, and has done poorly in that respect.
I mean, really. How does that make sense to them? How does that make sense to their shareholders? You think someone would have been fired by this point over the PS3’s lack of focus…after all, between the two articles Kaz Hirai is saying that the PS3 is competing with more than just Nintendo and Microsoft because of what the machine is capable of but the PS3 is also - exclusively - a video games console, a fact which he reaffirmed at the TGS.
Confusing stuff. By now, I would have prepared my resume and started fishing for jobs at Nintendo. :P
