Matt Casamassina seems to think he is everyone.

He is voicing a concern that is irrelevant to the majority of people who are obsessing over the Wii. This group is the very same group that Nintendo is marketing themselves towards. The casual gamer.

Behold his ignorance:

These days, I am only able to store about two N64 games on my system before I run out of space and have to start erasing games or Channels. It’s a nuisance, and it’s the farthest thing from intuitive. Nintendo says the Wii is for everyone, not just the hardcore crowd, but does it honestly expect mom and pop to delete and re-download games and Channels? For a system whose appeal lies at least partly with its ease of use, the memory issues sure make things difficult. [Bold added for emphasis]

Matt acknowledges that the system is expected to appeal to more than just the hardcore crowd; does he honestly believe that “mom and pop” are going to download the $100-200 worth of Virtual Console games that it takes to fill up the system, especially when they probably have an old N64 sitting in their basement somewhere anyway. There are some games that I would not buy for the Virtual Console because I can get them through other means. A lot of the A-list NES games on the Wii Download Channel are available through Animal Crossing (the entire reason I bought it). So, I spent 20 bucks and got 50 bucks worth of Virtual Console content, plus Animal Crossing. Metroid is available through Metroid Prime. Would I buy it again on the VC? No. That’s stupid.

Back to the topic of storage, casuals do not need it. They will not download enough games to fill it.

Matt - as a game reviewer - is in a position where he has to review all of this old content (despite the fact that it has not been edited) in order to write adequate reviews. He needs the space. Few others do.

If they do need the space, then they are part of the hardcore crowd, and probably already own an SD card. That being said, they can throw their stuff on the SD card and download more stuff. Amazing!

Another sad day as one of my Brawl hopefuls, Stafy, is confirmed as an Assist Trophy. First Little Mac…now Stafy. I’m scared.
