Portal is Amazing

I beat it in one sitting. So, yes. It is short. But never have I played such an enjoyable game. I’m making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS!

The physics were fun. The puzzles were good. The dark atmosphere, hidden secrets, and little comedic bits tied the whole atmosphere together. But what I loved best of all was the ending. Classic Valve.

It was an extremely thrilling game. I only wish my best friend, Companion Cube, had been able to make it the whole way with me. I loved that Companion Cube. I loved him so much. :’(

The cake is not real.

Portal and Half-Life 2

On the weekend, I was priviledged. I got to see Portal in action at the house of Binks. Or rather, the cell of Binks. The proper nomenclature escapes me. The point is, I saw it in action. And, Lord Binks was kind enough to transfer all the necessary files onto my computer.

When I returned home, I intended to complete the nineteen levels of Portal in a single sitting.

But…tragedy struck!!!

Half-Life 2 was no longer installed on my home computer. And where were the necessary CDs for installation? 5+ hours away in my brother’s suite in Peterborough. Alas, alas. In order to get Half-Life 2, I will have to ‘legitimately acquire the game’. I have acquired 46%. If anyone can help with a pirated copy, I would appreciate it immensely.

I am also reacquiring Bioshock. The copy I had got originally was missing some files.

They’ve delayed Super Smash Bros Brawl until the above date. So now, instead of completely decimating the game and unlocking everything on my Christmas holidays, I will be not buying the game because it is released at the height of midterm season. Thanks a lot Nintendo. Not to mention the fact that I will be living with three Smash fanatics next term, and I wanted a substantial amount of alone time with the game before I had to start sharing it.

Fuck.

I blame Andrew. February 10th is too close to his birthday (Jan. 29th). The whole event reminds me of elementary school, where 24 was mysteriously postponed to a week later on the evenings that Andrew was unable to watch it. :P

Provincial Election 2007

The Liberals have won themselves a majority government. 70 seats.

Conservatives got 26 seats.

NDP got 11. Green got 0. So much for my vote.

Liberals got 42.1% of the vote. Conservatives got 31.5%. This is pretty close together. Yet, since we have our stupid first past the post system (and will continue to have it), we are going to have to accept the fact that even though 58% of voters did not want a Liberal government, we’re fucked royally anyway.

If we were using MMP for this election, it means that the Liberals would have received 54 seats, the Conservatives would have received 41 seats, the NDP would have received 22 seats and the Green party would have received 10 seats, with two seats likely going to independents. And, although this would be more fair, it is clearly not meant to be. Since the referendum was slaughtered. I guess people really do fear change, even if it is entirely sensible.

Oh well. Settle in for another four years of hearing Dalton McGuinty soundbytes from the past two months being contradicted by something he has said more recently. God bless democracy and the silver tongue of Dalton McGuinty.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG JOINS BRAWL!!!

Every gamer who has been anticipating this announcement for years and years just shit themselves, got a new pair of pants, and then shit themselves all over again.

Although I was grinning at 5:30 am when I do my daily Brawl check, I couldn’t help but wonder if this means that no further characters will be announced. I mean…they said third party characters would probably be announced last. Does this mean we’ve seen everyone? No Olimar? :(

Oh, and by the looks of what they’ve shown, his Final Smash is Super Sonic.

Check out the pics, and two brand new videos at smashbros.com.

EDIT: On initial observation, I thought Sonic would fill the last “character emblem slot” from one of my earlier posts. However, his icon is image 20, meaning that instead of removing the last character slot, he has added another one. There are now 2 empty spaces. Olimar still has a chance!

EDIT: Also, after watching the video, I’m happy to say that they used my idea for a triple jump. I always thought they’d have him generate one of his ‘pinball’ springs beneath him, so that he would fly back up. :) Although, it would have been nice for my good friend Miles ‘Tails’ Prower tp make an appearance, and fly Sonic to safety. This announcement makes up for the horrible day I had yesterday, and the horrible headache I’m plagued with today.
